REALLY, YOU THINK ITS A CHOICE...HOW CLOSEMINDED ARE YOU....UR A JOKE TO THIS COUNTRYAND ITS PEOPLE LIKE U...WHO MAKE ME DSCUSTED WITH THIS COUNTRY.....I REALLY HOPE ONE OF UR KIDS ACTUALLY ALL OF UR KIDS ARE GAY...THEN TELL ME ITS A CHOICE....
I've got news for you, A. Columbo. Whether or not gay marriage is allowed, your kid won't have to decide what their orientation is. It is already decided, has been since they were very small, or perhaps even before they are born, and nothing will change it now. If one of them turns out to be gay, it won't be because he or she selected, it will be because that's how he/she was made and that's who he/or she is. If that happens, I hope for your sake and the sake of your child that you will accept your child for who he or she is--and perhaps then you will see that it is wrong for that child not to have all the same rights as other people.

Columbo this is not about the constitution protecting the children, it's about the church doing what they do best, taking away the rights of those whom they fear and are not tolerant of. Children don't need a mother and a father to know that they are loved. I am a homosexual and I do not impose my thoughts or will on those who are different from me, and growing up without a father did not make me this way. Who I am and what I am is by the grace of God and I have made the best of my life...a good high paying job, two Masters degrees and a partner I have been with for 29 years. Children are not being subjected or pressured to someday having to pick their sexuality, and I find that to be a very cowardly comment.
This is not only a civil rights issue, this is about discrimination, hate, bigotry and intolerance by heterosexuals who feel they can change the State's constitution to suit their own needs, and shape it into their own image. The heterosexual community should stop taking the coward's way out by using the children as an excuse to discriminate and deny a protected class their rights. Instilling fear into the hearts and minds of parents using this type of excuse is worse than George W. taking us to war using the same type of tactics. Say what you will and try to disguise it anyway you like, but it all comes down to one thing, intolerance, hate, denial of civil rights, discrimination, and bigotry.
Honestly, I am a gay man and I do NOT care about marrying my significant other. My flack with the whole issues lies in the fact that there are same sex couples who have devoted 30, 40, even 50 years to one another and they one ask the same equality as their heterosexual counterparts. Is that such a base desire to want equal rights? And where in the world do you get that your child gets to CHOOSE their sexual orientation? As far as these religious zealots and whoever else wants to join their bandwagon, I will say this: I chose to be gay the same day you chose to be straight, plain and simple. "Lifestyle", "choice", "preference" are not the words of which to label another individual's life.
When Americans as a whole will stop evaluating everyone else's lives and begin to evaluate their own, perhaps we can take another step forward to looking more like the "United" States rather than the "dis-United" States. If a same sex marriage or a civil union doesn't involve YOU as a concerned party, then get out of the way and allow others the right to be happy.
And for those who want to drag out their bibles and thump others over the head, how about reading a little further in the book of John 8:7? "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone." Or how about Matthew 7:1 "Judge not that ye be not judged." Or perhaps a little further in Romans 2:1 "Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things." And as far as one individual having to give a recollection of their OWN life to another individual, read Proverbs 26:4 "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him."
